CTE Health Careers

The Health Careers pathway has grown tremendously since its arrival on campus in 2015. Dr. Olga Orlova is the instructor and works tirelessly to provide a hands-on learning environment for students interested in healthcare professions and prepare graduates for entry-level jobs in a variety of medical settings. These courses include Introduction to Nursing, Emergency Nursing, Speciality Nursing, and Laboratory Nursing. 

 

Currently, the Health Careers pathway at CCHS is actively partnering with local hospitals to create work-based learning opportunities to provide students with real-life. work experiences where they can apply academic and technical skills and develop their employability. Students visit Nursing Simulation Labs at Natividad Hospital, Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology Center at the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula (CHOMP), and the Anatomy Lab of the Stanford Medical School. Students are able to interact with equipment and learning resources used by nursing students, including real human organs, as well as hear from a variety of local healthcare professionals about employment opportunities in the area. 

 

Students graduate from the academy with the CPR and First-Aid Certification as approved by the American Red Cross as well as important nursing skills such as taking blood pressure, determining heart-rate, reading temperature with an external thermometer, and crucial procedures when it comes to cleanliness.
